Show students your story box, previously filled with:
a picture of a haunted house
number 10
a broomstick/ a pointy hat
a web
anything that recalls the characters of the story
READING
Use repetitions in the story to get students to interact: "in" / "out"
Use rhyming words in the story to get students to count down from 10
AFTER READING
Check what they remember: ask students to tell you who are the characters in the story.
Create a story map and summarize elements of the story:
Title | Characters |
Author | Settings |
Beginning | Middle | End |
Story sequencing
- with pictures: prepare a worksheet with pictures of all the characters, before class. Ask students to cut the pictures and stick them on their notebook, in the correct order. Fast finishers can colour the pictures;
- without pictures: ask students to draw pictures of the characters, in the order they appear in the story;
- writing the words: ask students to write the names of the characters in the order they appear in the story.
Story craft: prepare a worksheet with a picture of a haunted house and ten ghosts, before class. Ask students to colour the house, cut out the ghosts and stick them in the windows.
